Cyber attack – warning!

It’s real. We don’t take it seriously enough.

That’s the warning from the departing boss of NHS Digital (HSCIC), Kingsley Manning, and he has a good point. Despite some improvements, boards of most health and care providers still do not have this on their agenda. Travelling around the country talking to Information Governance managers, that is our experience too. A few years back it didn’t seem to matter but the reputational and political consequences (not to mention the effect on vulnerable patients) from a hacking attack are incalculable. Such a data security breach would be career ending. There is no doubt blame and responsibility would be fall to the organisation. These comments were reported in the Health Service Journal.
