Artificial intelligence

We have a long history of advising clients on clever, innovative and disruptive technologies. With our AI legal team and our full-service expertise, we can help you navigate the legal landscape of artificial intelligence effectively and responsibly.

Our team is here to guide you through the complexities of AI technology.  We can help you with:

  • Tailored AI policies and strategies.

  • Regulatory compliance (including navigating the EU AI Act).

  • Consumer protection and anti-discrimination aspects of AI.

  • Intellectual property, such as advising on potential intellectual property infringements in relation to AI-related implementations.

  • Contractual issues relating to AI (for example and including terms & conditions on the use of AI, its use in outsourcing & technology transformation projects and in relation to liability & risk management).

  • Employee/HR issues when deploying AI in the workplace.

  • Other areas impacted by AI including privacy, cybersecurity, data security and competition.

Our experience

Below is a snapshot of our recent client work and of our team’s experience:

  • Advising the British Council on its procurement of AI technology solutions used in the British Council Primary English Test.

  • Reviewing and helping major UK property consultants further develop their policy on use of AI technologies.

  • Advising on terms and conditions relating to use of AI, and on potential uses of AI to monitor employee activity.

  • Advising on the implementation of neural network AI technology for a NASDAQ listed company for facial recognition arrangements.

  • Advising on the second generation outsourcing of warehousing and logistics services, including procurement strategy, tender evaluation, down-selection, contract negotiations and award. The outsourcing involved specific advice on the TUPE / redundancy risks and IT transition to AI-powered automation and robotics solutions.

  • Advising a client on a potential claim against a “unicorn” for various intellectual property infringements, including in relation to the training of a GenAI tool.

  • Urgent data breach advice in relation to a breach caused by an employee using generative AI. Advice included urgent assistance in containing and mitigating the impact of the breach and advice around obligations towards relevant third parties (including the Information Commissioner’s Office).
