Science and technology parks

The growth of science and technology parks has been steadily increasing in recent years, and accelerated during the pandemic. Occupier demand for space has triggered greater investment in this sector.

Mills & Reeve is strongly committed to maintaining our market leading capability in all areas of legal work relevant to science and technology parks. Our sector expertise within real estate, health, education, life sciences and technology enables us to provide the highest quality, commercial advice.

We know from experience that science and technology parks often involve unique issues that may not be relevant to other areas of the property and construction markets.

We've acted on transactions involving leading players in the sector, many as our client. We understand the drivers and are well placed to bring forward a successful transaction.

Our experience

Our team brings in-depth specialist experience to work in this sector.

  • We've been the sole provider of advice to Trinity College, Cambridge on all its legal requirements in connection with the Cambridge Science Park since its inception over 40 years ago

  • Our team supported the University of Birmingham on the proposed £210m Birmingham Health Innovation Campus. The world-class life science campus for the West Midlands will create new jobs and accelerate the development and deployment of new drugs, diagnostics and healthcare technologies to patients.

  • We successfully assisted Kadans Science Partner on the acquisition of The Quadrant, Abingdon Science Park in Oxford for £13.5 million. The property comprises 4 multi let buildings with office and R&D space and an adjoining plot of land with planning permission for a further 20,000 sq. ft of office and laboratory space. We'll now support Kadans on the ongoing asset management of the property in a key location for the life science industry.

  • We were appointed by Bruntwood who have set up the largest property led partnership focussed on sci-tech and own and operate key sites like Alderley Park and Circle Square, Manchester.
