Strategic partner hire to boost charity law practice
Welcome to Sarah Williams who joins the partnership to drive growth plans forward.
Sarah brings a wealth of experience and expertise having acted for many national and local charities across an 18-year legal career. She’ll work alongside Neil Burton, partner and head of charities team, leading the team's highly regarded work with charities and other not-for-profit organisations.
The UK charity sector continues to thrive, with over 170,000 charities registered with the Charity Commission and total income and endowments exceeding £90 billion. Despite this growth, the sector faces ongoing regulatory scrutiny and complex governance challenges.
Sarah’s appointment is a key step in addressing these challenges and supporting charities with specialist advice on charity governance, commercial, real estate, employment, data protection, legacy disputes, and charity-related projects.
Recognised as a Next Generation Partner in the Legal 500, Sarah acts on matters ranging from complex governance advice to establishing new charities, mergers and restructuring. She has in-depth experience working for charities across the sector, from family charitable foundations and grant makers, to international membership and professional bodies, in addition to faith-based charities and many others on the full range of charity issues.
Neil commented: “Sarah’s appointment is testament to Mills & Reeve’s commitment to our national charity client base and the evolving needs of the sector at large. We have ambitious plans for growth over the next five years and Sarah’s appointment will play a key role in this.”
Sarah added: “Joining Mills & Reeve presents an exciting opportunity to address the complex challenges faced by the charity sector. I look forward to leveraging my experience to provide specialised legal support and contribute to the firm’s continued growth and success in this vital area.”
