Oxford wins for Mills & Reeve's real estate team

The team hosted their first team day since 2019 in Oxford to celebrate the new office and for the opportunity to get together to plan the sector's exciting future in the region.

A team of 40 spent two days at the Mathematical Institute within the University of Oxford with interesting and interactive group discussions around client satisfaction, networks, the important work we do around ESG and of course, Oxford.

They welcomed David Williams, Senior Commercial Director at Harwell Campus who delivered an insightful talk to the team outlining his experience in REI and life sciences, his vast knowledge of Oxford and the huge opportunities waiting for Mills & Reeve.

Following David’s presentation, the team spent time discussing how we can further collaborate with and support our clients and the wider Oxford business community. Our market-leading patient capital team are planning a series of videos with Oxford contacts in the new year to discuss this emerging type of real estate investment and we will be joined by Carolyn Puddicombe from ChristChurch for our first discussion with Alex Round.

The team also won ‘Best Law Firm’ at OxPropFest for the second year running this year. The award identifies those operating in the built environment, construction and real estate sectors who can demonstrate that they have been active in the Oxfordshire marketplace, closing deals, creating new business opportunities and have matched their business plan objectives during the past 12 months.

The firm has been active in Oxford for many years and with one of the strongest real estate life sciences offering in the UK, the life sciences team is committed to sharing our expertise and supporting clients working in this thriving sector. While embracing our new office location, members of the team have been reflecting on the market and producing content to provide further commercial support to our clients and contacts and guide them through important issues they are facing. In recent articles, Vincenzo Maggio explored the issues around lack of lab space,  Chloe Gibson discussed the challenge lab spaces are seeing with the attempt to help achieve net zero and our ESG expert Laura Ludlow shared the content from a UKSPA conference she spoke at on Science Parks and Net Zero

Kadans Science Partner recent acquisition of Windrush Court shows the continued strength and growth of the real estate and life sciences sectors in Oxford. Vincenzo Maggio and Emma De Meyer led a team that advised them on this acquisition from Oxford Biomedica in a sale and lease back transaction.

Vincenzo Maggio, partner at Mills & Reeve, said: “This was a particularly notable deal for the real estate investment team as we continue to advise businesses that are at the forefront of scientific innovation. Kadans is the European leader in the development and management of life sciences buildings and eco systems. We are delighted to have advised them on this acquisition which will be a great addition to their pan-European portfolio. Oxford is a global centre of excellence in life sciences with its world leading University and knowledge-sharing ecosystem of enterprise”.
