New pensions partner joins fast-growing practice
Carol Dick is a highly regarded and experienced pensions lawyer skilled in advising scheme sponsors and trustees on all aspects of their pension arrangements.
Having recently worked in senior positions at PwC and Osborne Clarke, she has extensive experience in helping employers and trustees navigate the path to buying-out benefits with insurers and in advising corporates on restructuring and transactions against the toughening pensions regulatory regime.
Carol becomes part of the pensions team during a period of significant growth, with experienced pensions lawyer, Laura Sayer, promoted to partner in January. Sinead Sheehan has joined from Stephenson Harwood as a principal associate and dedicated pensions legal executive, Maha Khan has recently qualified as an associate solicitor, and a new principal associate is set to start in June. They join Camilla Highmoor, senior associate, and Wendy Ovenden, a professional support lawyer, in the wider pensions team.
Over her 23-year career in London, Carol has built a network which includes professional trustee companies, benefit consultancies, buy-in consultants, covenant advisers, and other pensions lawyers.
The bulk annuity (buy-in) market is the fastest growing area in pensions, so the pensions team is well-positioned to capitalise on this growth by leveraging Carol’s reputation in the market. She is well-known for her transactional expertise, having completed numerous large and small scale bulk annuity transactions in recent years.
Carol commented: “I am very excited to be joining Mills & Reeve, particularly at such an exciting time for the pensions practice, and I can't wait to explore new areas of potential growth for the firm. Having worked with Laura previously for many years as partners at Squire Patton Boggs, I know we will make an excellent team. Our shared history and experience, particularly with risk transfer transactions, will help us drive new opportunities while continuing to deliver excellent service to our existing client base.”
David Mills, partner and head of Mills & Reeve’s employment, pensions and immigration practice, said: “We’re very excited to welcome Carol as we continue to expand our pensions offering. We believe this collaboration will enhance our visibility across the firm and pensions market as Carol and Laura support on various cross sector and cross specialism cases and increase opportunities with new and existing clients.”
