Mills & Reeve reinforces position as leading provider to UK Government

As one of only 12 firms appointed to the new general legal advice and services panel, Mills & Reeve looks forward to continuing to work with existing clients such as the Ministry of Defence, the Department of Health & Social Care, the Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities, the Department for Work and Pensions, Homes England, the Government Legal Department and the British Council, as well as growing strong relationships with new clients.

Mills & Reeve has recently worked with a number of central Government departments and other public bodies on a wide variety of urgent and high profile projects, including:

  • the UK Government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic
  • the introduction of T Level technical level qualifications
  • the procurement of contracts relating to services, equipment provision and training for the MOD’s Chinook and Apache fleet of helicopters

Greg Gibson, partner and head of the Government sector at Mills & Reeve, said: “We are delighted to have been appointed and look forward to playing an important role in this new look framework.

“We are really proud of the work we do for our Government sector clients, helping deliver policy initiatives and time-critical projects in a supportive and collaborative way. Over the last 12 months we have been working on a whole host of flagship projects across a range of Government departments, from the Department of Health & Social Care to the Ministry of Defence.

Our reappointment is testament to the hard work of all the members of our team in growing strong relationships with our Government sector clients and delivering outstanding client service.”

As part of a major tender process, CCS has combined two panels to create a new streamlined legal services panel with Mills & Reeve one of 18 firms appointed.

Under the new framework, the general legal advice services (GLAS) and finance and complex legal services (FaCLS) panels have been brought together.

However, the new legal services panel will still include two bespoke panels with 12 firms, including Mills & Reeve, winning places on Lot 1, which covers services previously included in GLAS, and six firms on Lot 2, which covers the current finance roster.

CCS supports the public sector to achieve maximum commercial value when procuring common goods and services. In 2020/21, CCS helped the public sector to achieve commercial benefits equal to £2.04 billion - supporting world-class public services that offer best value for taxpayers.

Under the framework Mills & Reeve can provide the Government with support in a wide range of law, including competition, construction, corporate, dispute resolution and litigation, employment, information and data protection, information technology intellectual property, planning, projects, procurement, real estate, real estate finance, restructuring and insolvency, retained EU law, tax, charities, education, food, health and healthcare, immigration, life sciences and inquests.

The framework was awarded in December. It is for three years but has an option to extend for a further 12 months following expiry.
