ICO launches new data protection audit framework
The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has launched a new data protection audit framework to help organisations assess their compliance with UK Data Protection laws. This will allow businesses to identify gaps, mitigate risks and improve transparency.
The framework, an extension of the ICO's accountability framework, includes nine toolkits covering key areas such as cybersecurity, data sharing and AI.
Each toolkit provides helpful tools like a downloadable audit tracker for monitoring compliance. This will simplify monitoring of internal data practices and, the ICO explains, will enhance compliance efforts, improve internal processes and reassure customers that their personal information is being handled with care.
The ICO Director of Regulatory Assurance said "our new audit framework will build trust and encourage a positive data protection culture. We want to empower organisations to embrace data protection as an asset, not just a legal requirement."
