New guidance for charities carrying out public fundraising and retail

As part of step 2 of the Government’s coronavirus roadmap out of lockdown, the DCMS has announced that public fundraising by charities is permitted from 12 April. This includes door-to-door, private site and street fundraising.

A statement, linking to updated guidance, has been published by the Fundraising Regulator and the Chartered Institute of Fundraising to help charities and fundraising organisations as they resume fundraising activities, including:

• guidance on the key principles of fundraising, and
• guidance on public fundraising,

both of which have been updated to include information on fundraising during the period of National Mourning following the death of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, and in relation to advice on PPE, face coverings and enforcement.

Step 2 of the roadmap also sees the reopening of charity shops, and the Charity Retail Association has updated its free to access COVID-19 operational guide to include new information on issues including ventilation and spot checks. It has also updated its summary of the latest COVID-19 regulations that relate to charity retail.
