Balance is our gender equity network. It was set up in 2022 to support the firm’s work towards greater gender equity, by providing a supportive community, holding events to raise awareness and encourage discussion, and celebrating the firm's achievements as we progress.

As one of our newer networks, since its foundation, Balance has focused on building up a diverse membership base, and establishing a set of objectives that support the firm's wider activities to increase gender equity.

Our aims

  • To provide the opportunity for people of under-represented genders to share work related issues of common interest and concern in a safe environment

  • Represent network members at relevant consultation events (such as staff engagement working groups)

  • Help disseminate best practice in relation to inclusion of under-represented genders across the organisation

  • Celebrate and raise awareness of the different experiences of people from a range of different genders

Our achievements

Particular achievements for the network so far include:

  • Holding a panel event to celebrate International Women's Day 2023 exploring what 'embracing equity' means to colleagues, and leading in-office discussions to hear more about the challenges and opportunities women experience in our workplace

  • Delivering a panel discussion with external speaker Clare Walker (Deputy Head of Corporate Banking, HSBC West Midlands) discussing BD tips focusing on women's experience

  • Undertaking research into the various 'Women In' groups the firm is involved in with a view to creating a forum to share best practice, network, and deliver joint events

  • Supporting with the refresh of our domestic abuse policy

“our networks do a great job of enabling colleagues from across the firm to share their experiences and through Balance we can facilitate valuable conversations about important gender related issues.”
